What is mange?
Mange is a type of skin disease found in animals and is caused by parasitic mites. The effects of mange can be observed in animals, birds, reptiles and even plants. Scabies is characterized by hair loss, severe itching, and the formation of scabs and abrasions on the skin.
Mange in dogs is known as sarcoptic mange or canine mange, which is caused by light-colored, oval-shaped, microscopic parasites. All dogs are normally raised with demodectic mange mites, which they contract from cuddling with their mother during their first few years of life. Most dogs live in harmony with these mites without encountering any problems.
There are two types of mange seen in dogs, demodicosis and sarcoptic mange. The result of mange can be seen in dogs in the form of scaly bald patches, itching, etc.
scabies symptoms
Now that you know what mange is, you might be wondering what the symptoms of mange in dogs are. The symptoms of mange depend on the type of mites that are present on the dog. Demodectic mange can cause hair loss, scabs, sores, and hair loss. Bacterial infections can make demodicosis a more uncomfortable and itchy condition.
Sarcoptic mange usually causes severe itching that leads to restlessness and anxiety. It also causes hair loss, skin redness, and sores. The areas most commonly affected by mange in dogs are the face, legs, elbows and ears. However, it quickly spreads throughout the body.
Demodectic mange is not communicable to humans, but sarcoptic mange can cause red bumps on the skin in humans, similar to those in humansmosquito bite.
How to treat scabies in dogs at home?
Treating mange at home depends on the breed of dog and the type of mange that has developed. The drug can be administered orally or through injection, baths and scabies shampoos.
There are certain things that need to be considered when treating your dog with the help of home remedies. First, it must be recognized whether the dog has developed demodicosis or sarcoptic mange. With sarcoptic mange, the dog must be kept isolated so the disease doesn't spread to other pets and people. The vet may prescribe some antiparasitic medications for the dog to relieve sarcoptic mange, itching and inflammation, the results of which are visible after a month of treatment.
In addition to suitable medication, the treatment of demodicosis and Cheyletiella mange also requires the management of physiological stress. Some dogs infected with demodicosis need special treatments, such as B. medicated shampoos to prevent further skin infection. Puppies and younger dogs often fully recover from this disease, but adult dogs require long-term therapy to control the disease. The treatment should be accompanied by a skin scraping every two weeks. After two consecutive scrapings, the drug is stopped. The last scraping should be after a month of treatment to ensure that the disease does not come back.
